If you think your Amazon advertising is messy and you cannot cope with it anymore, this 30 minute weekly routine will help you out significantly. In this video, I walk you through a complete Amazon PPC optimization routine that you can follow every week to keep your Amazon ads campaigns under control and improve your Amazon advertising performance.
This Amazon PPC marketing guide covers five essential areas you need to check regularly to maintain healthy Amazon sponsored ads. Whether you are managing a small account or handling multiple campaigns, this structured approach to Amazon pay per click advertising will save you time and improve your results.
The first step in this Amazon PPC ads routine is analyzing your search terms. Go to your search term reports in the campaign manager and review each of your campaigns. Depending on the size of your account, this can take five to 10 minutes on average. I recommend selecting the last 30 to 65 days of data to ensure you have enough clicks to make informed decisions. Sort by clicks to focus on search terms with meaningful data, then look at your CPC, conversion rate, and purchase rate to determine which search terms to negate or move to sponsored product exact match campaigns.
The second area is budget check. This is an even quicker five minute check where you look at when each of your campaigns is going out of budget. If the performance is good, increase the budget. If performance is not right, you need to optimize either search terms or keywords or placements. This is something you may want to look at daily or every two days, especially for campaigns with good ACOS. If your ads are profitable, you want to keep spending on those. Start with small increments when increasing budgets.
The third focus area is top keyword bids. This is one of the most important things to take into consideration for Amazon PPC. Look at how your keywords are performing and identify which ones are taking majority of the budget. If a keyword is performing well but taking all the budget, consider moving other keywords into a separate campaign so they have room to breathe. A rough rule to follow is that if you are having good ACOS under your target, increase bids by at least 5 to 10 percent gradually.
The fourth step is placement sanity check. Review the performance of top of search, rest of search, and product display pages. Typically top of search has the best click through rate and conversion rate. If you are tight on margins, consider shifting budget from rest of search and product pages to top of search through placement isolation techniques.
The fifth and final step is adding negatives. Filter your search terms to show only those with high ACOS, for example greater than 40 percent. Also filter to show search terms with zero sales. Look for patterns in search terms that are too broad for your product or not relevant. If a search term has accumulated enough clicks without conversions, negate it.
If you do these five steps every week, it can take 15 to 30 minutes. Following this structure of weekly routine will help you feel much better about your account and have structure to your Amazon advertising campaign management.
