hi everyone my name is Jelena from Amazonia PPC and today we're going to show you how to do some basic keyword research and identify which keywords are most important for your new listing to get rank for and show up on the first page of the search results basically to do this little exercise I have chosen the random listing which is a poster character in order to show you how the whole process looks like and what kind of tools were using to do this keyword research so let's tie right into it I'm going to copy this phrase over here poster quarter and as you can see I'm already logged into helium 10 there are a couple of main features that we use to do keyword research which is magnet cerebral Flight Frankenstein so to start off I'm going to go to magnet and just enter this seed keyword phrase that I've just copied from this random listing so let's imagine that your product is a poster character and you're just looking to launch it and you are trying to identify your main keywords that you should rank for so this is the kind of situation that we are doing a keyword research for so poster quarter I'm going to click on get keywords new search and let's see what the helium tank has to offer to us usually when you start off with this that of with a phrase that's this wide you will get a couple of thousands of results but we're not going to use all of them we're going to use filters to identify which ones are the most important and then we're going to use some similar criteria that will help us identify which keywords are here to stay and which ones should be eliminated okay so the results are here there is almost approximately six thousand keyword suggestions and in order to make all of this more manageable I'm going to forty to excel this is just basic keyword research tutorial and before you head on to using some advanced features like I don't know for example optimizing report out or filtering by competing products or match type and stuff like that you should first really get a handle doing all of this manually in Excel simply because we have to go through the keyword suggestions in order to find these couple of really important was you might already have a good idea of a couple of keywords that are really key key for your product they're really describing the corner of your product features but at the same time you never know what's in the market and what kind of phrases your customers like that are typing in in order to find your prototype so this is why keyword research is so important it's very it's crucial for you to understand how to do it right so in order to make all this 6,000 keyword lists more manageable we're going to export it to excel this might take a while because we have a lot of rows for the tool to process okay let's open it up now when the Excel opens the first criteria we're going to use is of course the search volume it's very important to eliminate some of the search terms by search volume simply because they search volume is a metric that determines how how likely is your product to rank for a certain keyword and it tells you which keywords are most frequent in which keywords are most relevant your prototype judging by the seat here where they should type them so okay now we have a list as you can see there is still six thousand of it almost six thousand and we're going to filter out some of the keywords that are less frequent than others how do you know what is your baseline number to sort by basically we're going to sort by sorry let me see we should be able to sort largest the smallest without these blanks so first thing we're going to move is first remove blanks clear out the data so that we can manage it more easily I'm using a filter just to remove the ones that have blanks that there is no information about usually when search one in the solo helium 10 or Amazon can't provides information about so once you remove all of that you can do another sort largest by smallest by search volume and here you can see some of the main keywords that we probably already guessed that were their poster quarter for women just poster quarter also credited for men and then you have some unrelated terms like backpack and stuff like that that will clear out a little bit later now that you sorted out now you can see that there's 85,000 searches per month or certain he was obviously it's a very competitive keyword so we're looking to narrow down this list how many we have left we have left like four and a half thousand of search attempts here in order to make this job a little easier for us but at the same time still end up with a high quality list we're going to let's say exclude the ones that are less than thousand searches per month from this list so less than one thousand now we I'm going to export this to a separate tab simply because we don't want to lose this data you want to keep everything saved in case that you want to expand your keyword list for PPC or whatever it is that you might need it for it's always safer to save than delete and then try and struggle to get it back so better be safe than sorry when it comes to keyword research and in general working with that app so now that I've removed it I can just hide this sheet and just make this whole whole workbook a little bit more visually appealing and we can delete these less than a thousand keywords from the list now safely because we have already saved that before now you have a keyword list of a hundred and forty keywords out of the ones there are more than a thousand searches per month this is what you should be looking for especially when you're looking for a very competitive keyword this is something to keep in mind it all depends on what your maximum search volume for the specific you it is obviously if the maximum search volume of the biggest search volume for first keyword from the list would be let's say 2000 per month you would lower your criteria and you would just remove from the list the ones that are hundred searches per month or less or something like that to find your baseline especially if you go through the cerebro tool reverse Aysen and see what the competitors are ranking for and what's their volume that that's when you can kind of estimate where you're at where you want what you want to use it as your baseline for six watt so okay first thing we're going to kind of understand is what what our core keywords and what are some of the supplemental cue it's like you still want to rank for keywords such as back pain for example or poster brace pick back pain relief stuff like that back support that's not like a hundred percent your core key word hundred percent something that you want to rank for ideally but at the same time it is something that you want to appear for at least organically so if you have some extra like left over budget this is something that you want to keep on some list and still rank for it because it will improve your brand awareness it will improve your campaigns reach but it will not have this 100 percent strong effect on sales such as core keywords in this case four keywords are foster character and everything that's related to that so there will be the first thing we kind of filter out let's see what's there that has to do with poster this is something I would say separate in its own list sorry once you have moved this to its new tab I will delete this from the list because it will speed up the process so much more okay we are left with a let me see how many here is 100 you it's I would say anything related to relief or support would be a good additional keyword to filter out so you have here support related I'm going to go ahead and delete that from our main list because we've cleared it out and now we can see what else there is so for example shoulder brace would be a very good example this type of keyword isn't exactly foster character but it's the same thing it does the same thing and you have a far less search volume which obviously ends up with a far less competition competing products were for this type of keyword and you will you will basically have a lot less work in order to get that right so let me see everything related to brace will also go it to its own separate group you can see that there are also certain variations like back raise for men for women shoulder brace it's a very good example simply because here you can see that in this product products strictly related to shoulders so this might be even a better even better example of the keyword kind of keyword that we want to rank for because you can see that there is a lot less competing products for it in this list so let me see brace related it's also going to go in its own group and here we were just going to like manually quickly go through all of these because they had a lot of significant search volume and for some reason helium tank gave us these results we want to know why we want to know why our product is ranking for something that's completely unrelated like finally fresh this is a good example why are we ranking for this backpack is also a very good example we want to know why is this happening so maybe it has something to do with back because it's a back pain and and maybe some kind of back-end search there was something that had something to do with our ranking for this specific keyword so when you notice on this list something that should not be there I'll make sure to also say that like either in a notepad or in a new tab let's say negatives let's call it negatives because if you're running PPC and you're doing any kind of keyword research it will save you time when you saved these negatives simply because you don't have to do it wise you don't have to do 2 times keyword research in order to identify which ones are negatives you already are saving them so to speak so backpacks gonna go inversion table again when you find some type of search result that is in your suggested keywords list and does not belong there in your opinion it has nothing to do with your product and you should really ask yourself why are you ranking for it there must be some kind of reason either you've entered the wrong category or you made wrong choice of keywords to use in your anywhere in your listing or back end search terms aren't doing well for you as you can see that this is that something related to therapy but very very far away from this broad that we are selling here so this would also this type of search term inversion table will also be very very much an edited and saved in negatives list stuff like weighted last stress relief with also all of them be negatives I'm just going to speed out for the sake of this video not to make it too long okay so basically I would go through all of these suggestions here and find some suggestions in these leftovers that are left after we did our basic keyword research and I've discovered what our seed keywords are the main keywords are you have leftovers here and you're here in this group of keywords you're basically looking for negatives you're not looking for your CQ words because you already have extracted them to their own tatts and once you have all of these keywords here I would do another set of keyword research based from helium 10 for example we knew that we should start from poster related keywords but in our seed keyword research we found out that they're also pretty good search terms related to like back support or shoulder support a very good example try the support brace this would be hundred percent something we want to rank for also brace related we found some really good examples here like shoulder brace bad place for women shoulder brace for women stuff like that so basically I would choose these good keywords over here and run them through the helium 10 tool again to make sure that we extract more of these examples here that would be lower in search log like for example they would be below a thousand but at the same time there would be less competitive which means there are less competing products to rank for your very core keyword that someone who is very qualified sharper would type in for your search them for your product so let me see back brace for women let's choose shoulder brace for women and see what happens ideally we're looking for more ideas and we're looking for less competitive keywords that will help us get ranked better for all these alternative keywords that us or any competitors sellers maybe haven't thought of before that's the value in these tools basically they will help you understand how the market not only searches for your product but also how they see your product it's very important we are looking to see the results were shoulder brace for women still waiting for it when you have a lot of suggestions it sometimes and take a while here we have 4000 keywords so all keywords that are related to shoulder brace for women this is a longtail keywords which means it's consisted of a couple of words that are very well defined in terms of what your product is and basically out of these we would also export them and filter out the same way we did these first three but we would go and much more details try and identify which ones are below thousands let's say between 500 and a thousand I would that would be my criteria for these other seed keywords once you have identified which are the main keywords that you want to rank for and I would suggest you choose the ones that have the greatest ratio between search volume and competing products that are also competing for it for that keyword meaning that you you're looking to have your search volume up and competing products down in that ratio so once you know which other ones you want to rank for these are the ones that you should look for placing in your product titles power descriptions key product features especially in the backend search terms and just try to use them but not misuse them or reuse them not put them as every other keyword like in every every other word should be keyword that's that's a very wrong thing to do just try and use them throughout the text without pushing it too hard if you need help from some professional copywriter it's a 100 percent good thing to do especially if there are professionals they will start their copywriting project by doing basic keyword research understanding what the product is what your father's benefits are and how to best showcase them to the to the public to your users but at the same time understand all these ranking factors and how to not misuse all of this potential that we have over here alternatively if you are like sort of out of places where you can use your main keywords why for example you already used the product title we'll put put it in you put the keywords in your product title and you already have used the descriptions plays you have stuffed your ABCs with keywords and there is no leftover place for you to use these keywords organically then I suggest that you use these expanded list especially for the longtail keywords that don't have as much volume as we would love them to have like 20,000 searches per month these lower search volume keywords that have their lesson competition are really good candidates for you to use on PPC because they tend to be cheaper than the ones that are competitive that's obviously common sense but not a lot of sellers included into their strategy so it's definitely a competitive advantage for you if you do it that way in our next video I'm going to show you how we use cerebro to reverse Aysen to do a reverse ace and look up and stay tuned for more videos I hope we provided you a lot of value with this tutorial and Frequently asked questions

Q: What is the difference between core keywords and supplemental keywords in Amazon keyword research?

A: Core keywords are the phrases that most directly describe your product and have the strongest impact on sales, for example "posture corrector" for a back support brace. Supplemental keywords are related terms like "back pain relief" or "back support" that are less exact but still relevant, and they help with brand awareness and broader campaign reach. Both matter, but your listing optimization and PPC budget should prioritize core keywords first.

Q: How do I narrow down thousands of keyword suggestions from a tool like Helium 10 Magnet?

A: Export the full list to Excel, remove any rows with blank search volume data, then sort from highest to lowest search volume. Set a minimum search volume threshold to cut out low-frequency terms: for competitive products, 1,000 searches per month is a reasonable baseline, while for niche products you may need to lower that to 100 or 500. This process typically reduces a list of 5,000 or 6,000 suggestions down to a manageable set of 100 to 200 high-quality keywords.

Q: What search volume threshold should I use when filtering Amazon keywords?

A: The right threshold depends on your product category and how competitive your main keywords are. For highly competitive products, filtering out anything below 1,000 monthly searches is a sensible starting point. For niche products where even the top keyword only gets a few thousand searches, you would lower that threshold proportionally so you are not cutting out relevant terms that still represent real buyer intent.

Q: Why do irrelevant keywords show up in my keyword research results, and what should I do with them?

A: Irrelevant results appear because tools like Helium 10 pull broadly related terms based on partial word matches or backend indexing patterns, for example "backpack" appearing in results for a posture brace. When you spot a keyword that clearly has nothing to do with your product, save it to a separate negatives list rather than just deleting it. That list becomes directly useful when setting up PPC campaigns, saving you time by having your negative keywords already identified.

Q: Should I use long-tail keywords in my Amazon listing, and where do they fit?

A: Yes, long-tail keywords such as "shoulder brace for women" are worth targeting because they have lower competition and tend to attract shoppers who are closer to making a purchase. If you have already used your main keywords across your title, bullet points, and description, long-tail keywords with lower monthly search volumes are ideal candidates for your backend search terms and PPC campaigns. They tend to be cheaper to bid on and can give you an edge over sellers who only target the most obvious high-volume terms.

Q: Once I have my keyword list, where should I actually use those keywords in my listing?

A: Prioritize placing your highest-volume core keywords in the product title first, then carry them through the bullet points, product description, and backend search terms. Avoid repeating the same keyword in every section: Amazon's algorithm indexes a keyword once it appears, so stuffing it repeatedly wastes space that could be used for additional relevant terms. Use any remaining keywords, especially long-tail variations, in your PPC campaigns where they can drive traffic without needing to occupy prime listing real estate.
