Learn how to properly manage Amazon advertising budgets using two key methods inside Campaign Manager. This video covers the budget tool limitations and provides a better alternative for accurate budget optimization.

The budget tool in Campaign Manager can show misleading recommendations. For example, a campaign spending 45% of its €20 daily budget might get a recommendation to increase to €80 instead of the logical €40 needed for 50% more budget. These recommendations become problematic for high-spending campaigns where Amazon might suggest tripling budgets for campaigns already meeting 85-95% of their daily spend.

The average time in budget metric lags by several days, showing data only up to 3 days prior. For more precise budget management, use the sponsor product budget report under measurement and reporting. This report provides accurate recommendations, like suggesting €33 from €10 to reach 67% budget utilization.

The sponsored ads budget report also includes year-over-year performance comparisons, showing current versus last year impressions, clicks, and CPC data. This helps evaluate if strategy changes from revenue-focused to profitability-focused campaigns are working. The report includes estimated missed sales ranges that differ significantly from the budget tab recommendations.

Since the budget tool is in beta, discrepancies between data sources are expected. For critical budget decisions, always use the sponsored ads reports for more reliable Amazon advertising optimization.

Hi guys and welcome to another video. Here I will talk about budgets. So there's this handy tool inside campaign manager called budgets and it's on the left. I really recommend you occasionally check it out but don't not do not rely too much on it because you know it can very often show absolute gibberish without any mathematical significance. For example, what you can see is that like this one. So this campaign is average time in budget is 45% in the like month to date which you know by the logic you would say like I have 20 euros per day budget for this campaign and to meet additional 50ish% I need 40 but Amazon is recommending for some strange reason 80% uh sorry €80. So that's four times more just to meet the additional 50% of the budget. And that's what I've been seeing. Um, and if it's a campaign that's spending 20 or $40, that's not a big deal. But I've seen these these recommendations for campaigns that are spending $500 per day and they're meeting 85 95% of the budget and the Amazon is recommending to increase the budget three times more. you know, do not ever listen to that advice if you care for your wallet. Um, so here it's kind of useful. You can see what's what's been happening. The downside is that metric average time in budget is lagging a few days. So today it's 15 of of October and you can only see the data 3 days ago. So up to 12th of of October, what was the average time in budget across the all all of the campaigns? Now I've sorted uh by average time and budget. So I can see only these these ones at the top who are not meeting the required thresholds to to to spend throughout the day. But to mitigate this and to give more precise data, I recommend you to go and select the again go to this to the measurement and reporting then sponsor ad reports. There you will want to check sponsor product budget report and you will get again pretty boring Excel sheet. I've removed some of the columns just for the sake of simplicity. And here you can see much precise uh recommendations for budget. Some of these are similar to what you can see in the actual budget tool inside of campaign manager but most of them are pretty accurate. I don't know. You can see that here they are recommending uh 333 from 10, you know, just to just a little bit more to get to the 67. And in general, it's a pretty interesting report. You can see like your current impressions and last year impressions for certain campaigns, if your campaigns actually ran in the past for that long, and last year clicks. So, it's kind of also a report that you can use to compare the performance uh year-over-year. You know, what was the CPC last year, what what you're paying now? Now, can that can be pretty different because of the different strategy. Are you maybe now um aiming towards profitability and the last year was all about hitting the revenue goals, you know, who knows? And there's this again estimated miss sales uh ranges from minimum to maximum. Again it's completely different from what you can see from the budget tab. Okay. And they said budget is in beta and that's maybe why the discrepancy of of the data. But I encourage you to check it if if it's really important for you to nail these budgets correctly. I I suggest this second opinion from the sponsor ads reports because I find it much much better and much more precise. That was the short tip for today. Enjoy your day.

Frequently asked questions

Why are the budget recommendations in the Amazon Campaign Manager Budget Tab often inaccurate, and where can you find a more reliable alternative?

The Budget Tab in Campaign Manager is a beta tool and its recommendations can be significantly inflated. A campaign meeting 45% of its daily budget might logically need a modest increase to improve utilization, but the Budget Tab may recommend quadrupling the daily spend with no mathematical justification. For high-spending campaigns already meeting 85 to 95% of their budget, the recommendations can be even more extreme. The data also lags by several days, meaning the average time in budget metric may be three days behind the current date. For more reliable budget guidance, go to Measurement and Reporting in Campaign Manager, select Sponsored Ads Reports, and choose the Sponsored Product Budget Report. This report provides specific, proportional budget increase suggestions, includes estimated missed sales ranges, and also shows year-over-year impression, click, and CPC comparisons for campaigns that have historical data available.
