If you open your Amazon advertising account and find a long flat list of 50, 100, or even thousands of campaigns with no clear organization, you are not alone.

In this video, I walk you through everything you need to know about Amazon portfolios and how to use them effectively in your Amazon advertising strategy. Portfolios function as folders for your campaigns, allowing you to group your Amazon sponsored products, Amazon sponsored brand ads, and Amazon sponsored display ads into logical categories. You can organize by product line, such as grouping all garlic press campaigns together, or by strategy, like creating a dedicated brand defense portfolio.

I explain the key rules you need to understand about Amazon portfolios. Each campaign can only sit in one portfolio at a time, though you can move campaigns between portfolios freely. All campaign types work within portfolios, making this a versatile tool for your Amazon PPC management. One of the most powerful features is the portfolio budget cap, which allows you to control your Amazon ads cost at the portfolio level.

You will learn about the three budget cap options available: no budget cap, date range budget, and recurring monthly budget. The date range option is perfect for new product launches or seasonal promotions where you want to spend a specific amount within a set timeframe. The recurring monthly option helps you control spending by automatically resetting your budget on the first of each month.

I also cover a critical warning about the unspent campaign budget setting. By default, this feature is turned on, which can cause budget to spill over from your most important campaigns to less critical ones. If you have three campaigns and your top performer has unspent budget while the other two exhaust theirs, money will flow to the lower priority campaigns instead. I recommend switching this setting off to maintain control over your Amazon advertising campaign structure.

Inside the campaign manager, I demonstrate how to navigate to the portfolio view, where you can see aggregated performance metrics for all campaigns within each portfolio. This makes tracking your Amazon PPC campaign performance much easier than scrolling through endless campaign lists. You can monitor impressions, clicks, spend, sales, and ACOS at the portfolio level, giving you a clear picture of how each product group or strategy is performing.

Understanding what portfolios can and cannot do is essential for proper Amazon PPC optimization. Portfolios help you organize campaigns and cap total ad spend, but they do not automatically improve performance, increase budgets, or manage bids. Think of them as organizational tools with optional spending controls rather than optimization features.

Whether you are running Amazon sponsored products campaigns for individual items or managing complex Amazon advertising campaigns across multiple product lines, proper portfolio structure is fundamental to understanding your account performance. A well-organized account using portfolios makes auditing, reporting, and strategic decision-making significantly easier.
