In this Amazon Basics episode, I explain the fundamental structure of Amazon advertising campaigns and how all the components work together. Whether you are new to Amazon PPC or looking to improve your campaign organization, this video breaks down the essential building blocks of Amazon ads.
Amazon advertising campaigns consist of several interconnected layers that you need to understand to run effective sponsored products ads. I walk through each level from campaigns down to keywords, showing you how they connect and why proper structure matters for your Amazon PPC marketing success.
The campaign level acts as a big container where you group all details regarding your advertising objective. If you want to increase awareness of your brand or appear on certain keywords, this is where you organize everything. Each Amazon ads campaign should have a separate goal. One critical thing to remember about Amazon pay per click advertising is that you can only set your budget at the campaign level. You cannot set a budget for a specific keyword or product, which has major implications for how you structure your Amazon advertising campaigns.
Ad groups function like folders within your campaign. In a single ad group, you can group together which product you are advertising and which keywords you want to target. I recommend having a single product or variation of a product in each ad group. A variation is when products look the same, like different colored t-shirts that you can group together.
For Amazon sponsored products, the ad is simply your product. Unlike Google where you write headlines, Amazon takes your product title, price, and images to create the ad automatically. This is different from sponsored brands where you have more creative control.
The targeting tab contains your keywords, which are the search terms you want your product to appear for when shoppers search on Amazon. You set how much you are willing to pay for a single click in order to appear in a good position when somebody searches for that term. This is the foundation of Amazon PPC optimization.
I also explain why having a clean campaign structure with a single product per campaign gives you absolute control over your Amazon advertising spend. When you have multiple ad groups with multiple products in one campaign, you cannot control how much you spend on each individual product. If you want to push one specific product more than others, you need separate campaigns to manage budgets effectively.
